Welcome to the website of Bishop’s Stortford & District Talking Newspaper.
Our service is designed for visually impaired people and those who cannot physically manage to hold and read a newspaper. Our aim is to keep those people in touch with local news. The service is totally free to our listeners, including postage.
Our focus is on Bishop’s Stortford and the surrounding area, including Sawbridgeworth, Stansted, Dunmow, Saffron Walden and the nearby villages.
At a time when many local papers are closing, we are fortunate to have two – the long-established Herts & Essex Observer and the new Bishop’s Stortford Independent, first published in October 2017.
We issue our recordings on USB memory sticks and supply our listeners with a high quality player specially designed for people with sight or other physical problems.
You can listen to the latest recording by going to the Listen Online page of this website. It is also available through the British Wireless for the Blind Fund website and can be accessed on their Sonata players.
Please help to spread the word about our Talking Newspaper. If you know anyone who would benefit please let us know.
The Talking Newspaper is very grateful to the Bishop’s Stortford Rotary Club for its donation of £250, which will also be used for the purchase of more USB sticks.
