We always welcome new volunteers. There are a wide variety of different ways to help. The production of the Talking Newspaper is organised on a rota basis which means that volunteers involved in aspects of the production process are required approximately every five weeks.
These volunteers do their jobs at different times. Items from the paper are chosen by the editor on Wednesday morning. The material is read and recorded by four readers from their own homes using smartphone, tablet computer or home computer. The recordings are sent by email to a technician who adjusts volume levels, compiles them into a full broadcast and delivers it on memory sticks to the distributors. Distribution of the recording to our listeners is done on Friday morning and sent by Royal Mail to our listeners.. Some of our volunteers are involved in more than one activity while others are reserves to help out when required.
In addition there are the usual administrative jobs to be done. You may have particular skills, for example in publicity or interviewing, which can help make our end product more interesting and help us reach a wider audience.
